Political Groups Race to Reserve Election-Relevant Domains
After the Bush election victory, both conservative and liberal political organizations raced to register domains containing names of potential Supreme Court nominees such as “confirm[nominee's name].com” or “support[nominee's name].com.
Conservatives registered these domains in an effort to drive traffic to the candidates actual website and to serve as a blog to promote their candidates.
Liberal groups, however, raced to snatch up domains in opposition to potential nominees such as ”oppose[nominee's name].com“ and ”stop[nominee's name].com“ while also registering domains in support in a combined effort to both get their message out and prevent the distribution of the other side's message.
